Generative Engine Optimisation · India

Generative engine optimisation that gets your brand recommended by AI, not just ranked.

Your buyer asks ChatGPT or Perplexity which vendor to shortlist and gets three names. GEO decides whether one of them is yours. We fix the entity, content and source signals these engines actually use — and measure your citations across every one of them, monthly.

Plain definition

What generative engine optimisation actually means

Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is the practice of making a brand the one that AI systems recommend and cite when a buyer asks them a question. Classic SEO competes for a position on a results page. GEO competes for a place inside the generated answer — the three vendors ChatGPT names, the sources Perplexity footnotes, the brands Gemini and Google AI Overviews describe as the sensible choice.

It comes down to three levers, and they're more concrete than the category's marketing suggests. First, retrievability: AI crawlers must be able to fetch your pages, and your content has to be written in self-contained, factual passages a model can quote without inventing the missing half. Second, entity clarity: your brand, founder, location, services and credentials must tell one consistent story across your site, your schema and every profile the engine can check, or it will cite a competitor it can verify instead. Third, third-party presence: in most categories a large share of recommendations is grounded in sources you don't own — comparison articles, roundups, review platforms, forum threads — so being accurately represented there is part of the job, not an extra.

What's included

The GEO programme, end to end

From a logged baseline of what the engines say about you today to the monthly re-run that proves what changed. Take the full programme or the pieces your brand is missing.

AI-visibility audit

We run your real buying prompts — not keywords — through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews, and log exactly what comes back: who gets recommended, which sources get cited, and where your brand is absent, mentioned or misdescribed. You get a prompt-by-prompt baseline before we change anything.

Entity & brand-graph engineering

Language models recommend entities they can resolve with confidence. We consolidate your brand entity — consistent name, founder, address, services and credentials across your site, schema, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile, Wikidata-class sources and directories — so an engine has one unambiguous version of you to cite.

Citable content architecture

Retrieval systems pull passages, not pages. We restructure your content into self-contained, factual, quotable chunks — clear claims, named subjects, specific numbers, dates and units — the shape a model can lift into an answer without hallucinating around it.

Third-party source presence

A large share of AI recommendations come from sources that aren't your website: comparison articles, industry roundups, forums, review platforms, G2-class directories and Reddit threads. We map which sources the engines actually cite in your category and earn accurate placement in them.

Technical GEO & AI crawl access

If GPTBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and friends can't fetch and parse your pages, nothing else matters. We audit robots rules, server-rendering, rendering-dependent content, canonical clarity and llms.txt-style signals so your content is retrievable rather than invisible.

Citation monitoring & reporting

Monthly re-runs of your prompt set across every engine: where you're now cited, where a competitor took the recommendation, how your share of voice moved, and which prompts are one content or source fix away. Tracked in a dashboard you can open yourself.

Why SERP EDGE for GEO

Most “AI search” pitches are a deck with no baseline behind it

GEO is new enough that nobody can check the claims — which is exactly why we start with measurement you can re-run yourself.

We measure prompts, not vibes

Most GEO pitches are a slide deck about how AI is changing everything. Ours starts with a fixed set of your buyers' prompts and a logged baseline of what each engine says today, so improvement is a number you can check yourself rather than a claim you have to trust.

Off-site is half the work — we say so

In most categories the engines lean heavily on third-party sources: comparison pages, roundups, review sites, forums. An agency that only touches your website is optimising the smaller half of the problem. We work both sides and are upfront about which one is holding you back.

No guaranteed citations, ever

Anyone promising a fixed position inside ChatGPT is selling something they can't control — outputs vary by session, model version and phrasing. We commit to the inputs we can control and to honest monthly measurement of what moved.

Built on real SEO foundations

Every study of AI citations lands in the same place: engines mostly cite pages that already rank and brands they can already verify. GEO without technical health, authority and structured content is decoration. We run it inside the same programme that fixed those.

Senior-led, founder-accountable

Entity work and citable writing are judgement calls, not tasks to hand to a junior with a template. You work with the same senior people who ran the audit — with our founder accountable for the strategy end to end.

No lock-in contracts

Month-to-month, like every SERP EDGE engagement. AI-visibility work shows movement in weeks on the technical and entity side, so you'll have evidence long before an annual contract would have released you.

How we work

Five steps from invisible to cited

The same sequence on every engagement, documented so you always know which prompts we're chasing and what we changed to win them.

1. Build the prompt set

We write 40–100 prompts the way your buyers actually ask — problem prompts, comparison prompts, shortlist prompts, 'is X any good' prompts — pulled from sales calls, support tickets and Search Console, not from a keyword tool.

2. Baseline every engine

Each prompt is run across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and AI Overviews and the answers are logged verbatim: who's recommended, which URLs are cited, and how your brand is described when it does appear.

3. Diagnose the gap

Absent because you're not retrievable? Not authoritative enough? Cited but described wrongly? Beaten by a third-party listicle you're not on? Each cause has a different fix, and we name which one is yours before quoting work.

4. Fix inputs on-site and off-site

Entity consolidation and schema, passage-level content rewrites, AI crawl access, plus earning accurate presence in the third-party sources the engines already cite in your category.

5. Re-run, report, expand

The same prompt set every month against the same engines. You see share-of-voice movement, new citations, losses and the next tranche of prompts within reach.

The approach

What we've learned trying to get brands cited by AI

Start with prompts, or you're optimising blind

The first thing we do on a GEO engagement is boring and it changes the whole conversation: we write down 40–100 prompts the way the client's buyers actually ask, run them across every engine, and paste the answers into a sheet. Almost every time, the result surprises the client. Brands that rank well on Google turn out to be absent from shortlist prompts. Brands that thought they were invisible are being named — and described with a service line they dropped two years ago. You cannot fix any of that from a keyword report, because none of these are keywords.

Retrieval doesn't read pages, it reads passages

A generative engine assembles an answer from chunks. That means a page can be excellent and still be unusable: if the paragraph that contains your answer opens with “this approach” and depends on the two paragraphs above it, it can't be lifted cleanly. We rewrite target sections so each one names its subject, makes a specific claim, and carries the number, date or unit that makes it worth quoting. It is the same discipline as writing for a featured snippet, applied across the whole page rather than one answer block.

Entity ambiguity is the most common reason a brand isn't cited

This is the fix that most often produces a fast, visible change. If your site says one thing about your company name and services, your LinkedIn says another, your Google Business Profile has an old address and three directories list a phone number you stopped using, an engine has no confident version of you to attribute anything to — so it names a competitor whose story is consistent everywhere. Cleaning that up feels like admin work rather than marketing, and it moves citation rates more reliably than another 2,000-word blog post. The same principle underpins our answer engine optimisation work, where verifiable entities decide who gets quoted in the AI Overview.

A large part of your AI visibility isn't on your website

When we log the cited sources across a client's prompt set, their own domain is usually a minority of the citations. The rest are comparison articles, industry roundups, review platforms and forum threads — often written by people who have never spoken to the client. If the top three sources an engine consults for “best X in India” don't list you, no amount of on-site polish fixes the recommendation. So part of GEO is unglamorous outreach: getting into the right roundups accurately, correcting outdated descriptions, and earning genuine review presence. White-hat only — the link-package habits that got agencies through the last decade are exactly what makes a source untrustworthy to a model.

Check what your robots file is doing before anything else

We've now found several sites that had quietly blocked GPTBot, PerplexityBot or Google-Extended — in every case a default from a plugin or a security setting nobody revisited. They were running an AI visibility problem they had created themselves. It's a legitimate decision to block AI crawlers if you don't want your content used, but it should be a decision, made deliberately, engine by engine. Make it once, write it down, and stop wondering why you're not being cited.

The honest limits of GEO measurement

We won't pretend this is as clean as rank tracking. LLM outputs shift between sessions and model releases, personalisation muddies results, and two phrasings of the same question can return different vendors. So GEO measurement is sampling: the same prompt set, the same engines, the same schedule, tracked as share of voice over time rather than a position number. That is enough to tell a real trend from noise — and it's far more honest than a screenshot of one lucky ChatGPT answer. If someone shows you a guaranteed AI ranking, ask how they verified it.

GEO, AEO and SEO are one programme, not three invoices

AEO wins the answer inside a search result. GEO wins the recommendation where there is no search result at all. Both sit on the foundation that SEO builds: crawlable, fast, well-structured pages with genuine authority behind them. We've never seen a case where GEO worked on a weak foundation, which is why we run it inside the wider SEO services programme. If you want the split explained properly, read GEO vs SEO vs AEO and our practical walkthrough of how to get cited in ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews.

FAQ

Generative engine optimisation — straight answers

What is generative engine optimisation (GEO)?

Generative engine optimisation is the practice of making a brand the one that AI systems recommend and cite when someone asks a buying question. Instead of competing for a position in a list of links, you're competing to be inside the generated answer from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot or a Google AI Overview. The work has three parts: making your content retrievable and quotable at passage level, making your brand entity unambiguous and verifiable, and earning accurate presence in the third-party sources those engines already cite in your category.

How is GEO different from SEO and AEO?

SEO wins the ranking, AEO wins the answer, GEO wins the recommendation. SEO is about being the page that ranks on a results page. AEO is about being the passage Google lifts into a featured snippet, People Also Ask box or AI Overview — still inside a search result. GEO is about being the brand named when there is no results page at all: someone asks ChatGPT which vendor to shortlist and gets three names. They share foundations — technical health, structured content, real authority, a clean entity — which is why we run all three in one programme rather than selling them as separate products.

Can you guarantee my brand will be cited by ChatGPT or Perplexity?

No, and treat anyone who does with suspicion. Generative answers vary between sessions, model versions, regions and even small changes in how a question is phrased — there is no stable ranked list to buy a position in. What we can do is control the inputs the engines demonstrably use, measure your citation share across a fixed prompt set every month, and show you which fixes moved it. If a provider is promising a guaranteed spot inside an LLM, ask them exactly how they'd verify it.

Does GEO work if my site isn't already ranking well on Google?

Partly, and you should know which part. The entity, schema and crawl-access work helps regardless — an engine that can't resolve or fetch your brand won't cite you no matter how good the content is. But most AI answers are grounded in retrieval, and retrieval leans heavily on sources that already rank and already have authority. If your site has thin authority and unresolved technical issues, the honest sequence is to fix the SEO foundation and the entity together, then push on citations. That's the plan we'd give you after the audit, even if it means a smaller first invoice.

How do you actually measure AI visibility?

With a fixed prompt set and logged outputs. We define 40–100 prompts that match how your buyers ask, run them across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and AI Overviews, and record for each one whether your brand appears, whether your URL is cited, which competitors are recommended, and how you're described. Re-running the same set monthly gives you a share-of-voice trend and a list of prompts you've won or lost. It's a sampling method, not a rank tracker, and we're clear about that — but it's repeatable, and it beats guessing.

How long does GEO take to show results?

Technical and entity fixes surface quickly — often two to six weeks for a brand to start being resolved and described correctly, because you're removing ambiguity rather than building authority. Moving from 'described correctly' to 'recommended over competitors' takes longer, typically three to six months, because it depends on content depth and third-party sources that take time to earn. Categories with a dominant comparison site take longest, and we'll tell you at audit stage if yours is one of them.

Do I need to block or allow AI crawlers like GPTBot?

If you want to be cited, allow them. It's a real trade-off and worth deciding deliberately: blocking GPTBot, PerplexityBot or Google-Extended protects your content from being used for training and answers, but it also removes you from the answers your buyers are reading. We audit what your robots rules currently allow — several clients had blocked AI agents years ago via a plugin default and never realised — then make the call with you, publisher by publisher, rather than applying a blanket rule.

How much does GEO cost, and can I buy it on its own?

GEO is included in our SEO retainers, which start at ₹35,000/month, because it shares most of its foundation with the SEO and AEO work. As a standalone project — prompt set, multi-engine baseline, entity and schema build, content restructuring and a source plan — it's scoped and priced after the audit, since the size depends on how resolvable your brand already is. No lock-ins either way, and the AI-visibility audit comes first so you can see the gap before spending anything.
